Live-Green Program

Live-Green Program

The world is getting hotter by the day.  That might sound like a cliché, but we are living this sad reality!  Over the past ten years, the Rwenzori sub-region has consistently suffered seasonal flooding – with hundreds of people losing their lives, homes and properties.  Our seasons are more unpredictable than ever before.  Our people are dying of hunger.  It is obvious that we cannot afford to stand aside.

Community Sensitization

We run community sensitisation campaigns on “green living”.  Our community-based volunteers conduct home-to-home sensitisation meetings and community discussions to educate communities about the dire need to protect our environment, and ignite discussion on our individual and collective responsibility towards the environment.  Community members make individual commitments, which we then follow-up on.

School Environmental Clubs

We have initiated environmental clubs in six secondary schools, and we will continue to expand this program to cover more schools.  We believe young people are best placed to lead the change they want, and we believe if they start appreciating the value of our environment at a tender age, then our future will be safer!  Our school environmental clubs typically have 30-40 members and two teachers as patrons.  They are trained in basic environmental protection strategies and climate-smart agricultural practices.  They then work as environment champions in their schools, with most of them running school demonstration gardens, and leading campaigns to plant and maintain trees in their school compounds.
